This makes me so angry:
Academy's beliefs may end tourney run
BY MARK SNYDER

With a new high school, there are often logistical problems.

West Bloomfield Jewish Academy, in its first year of Michigan High School Athletic Association high school sports, will likely have to forfeit its spot in the baseball state tournament due to a religious conflict.

Academy's Tuesday baseball victory qualified it for a Division 4 district final matchup Saturday with Southfield Christian.

But Judaism requires that its followers not work on Saturday, the Jewish Sabbath.

The MHSAA requires that the remaining district games be played today or Saturday. And since Southfield Christian can't close its school for a whole day on such short notice and has too many kids in kindergarten through eighth grade outside for recess and gym, there was an impasse...

Allen said the MHSAA will move tournament games to a Monday only if inclement weather or another unforeseen event -- such as the electrical problem endured at the Flint hockey finals a few years ago -- forced the situation.

Which, ironically, may leave the Jewish Academy's fate in the hands of a higher being.

"We do not entertain requests," said Allen, whose office received some preliminary calls about the possible Jewish conflict earlier this year...

Baseball coach Larry Garon said the Academy was going to call the MHSAA again today about this issue. The school isn't ruling out legal action...

I feel so bad for Josh. To not be allowed to play because of Shabbat? Completely rediculous.
